An inspiring moment for the Millbray team as Mark Mezen, General Manager, and Frank Gee, Managing Director, completed the London Marathon to raise money for Children with Cancer UK.
Set up 35 years ago, the charity funds specialist research projects, raises awareness and supports children and their families affected by childhood cancer. Each year, it invests millions into better understanding these diseases and finding kinder, most effective treatments.
A last-minute drop-out from the charity team meant Mark had only three weeks to prepare for the event! Luckily, as an avid runner, Mark was able to run all 26.2 miles with a smile on his face, supported by his colleagues on the way round in true Millbray spirit!
“It was an honour to be asked by the charity that Frank is involved with to step in as a last-minute replacement for the London Marathon.
“With only three weeks’ notice, I was very nervous on the start line but with great support from my colleague Roland on mile 24 and the rest of the team, it spurred me on so much that come the last few miles, I was running quicker than at any time throughout the race!
“It was a great day which I really enjoyed with my family and the team supporting me for a great charity.”
Millbray’s Managing Director Frank is often challenging himself with sporting activities, putting his abilities to good use by helping to raise life-changing amounts of money for Children with Cancer UK.
“What a fantastic day out running for such a great cause. Children with Cancer UK have now funded over 200 childhood cancer research projects which means 8 out of 10 patients can now be treated successfully.
“Thanks to everyone that donated to all of us runners and in doing so helping to raise over £57,000 for charity.”
Passionate about supporting charities, the Millbray team have got plenty more fundraising events planned for the future, watch this space to find out what they get up to next!
